Animated Pangrams Series.
Screenprint Animation | 2022
While randomly choosing typefaces for a project one day I realized I didn't know why the sentence ‘The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over the Lazy Dog’ was used to display typefaces. A quick google search led me to English-language pangrams and how this sentence displays every character in the alphabet allowing you to see all letter designs when choosing a typeface.
When I learned this little fun fact at the beginning of my design career I had an idea to create a series of animations using different medium styles and treatments of animating the fox and dog to depict different fonts. This is the first animation experiment of the series and I picture it as some sort of heavyweight, grunge display font that Corita Kent would have used.
Next Door Neighbor
Screenprint | 2022
Anne Hartman was my childhood best friends mother and my moms best friend. In her early forties, she was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia. Tasked to create something with heavy concept and print on anything that is not traditionally flat paper, I decided to weave strips of recycled posters. The weaved paper acts as her dementia in the sense that it can be manipulated without her control. Her image is altered and cannot ever be re-aligned perfectly after pushing and pulling the paper, much like her personality when the disease took control.
Alvvays Collage Poster
Collage Poster | 2019
Collage was studied to explore chance, juxtaposition, layering, and iteration as a means to create original layouts and dynamic compositions. New Yorker Magazine clippings were used to convey the imagery. I needed imagery with a vintage feel and some bold attitude to represent the Canadian Indie Pop Band, Alvvays.
Pool with Bomsol
Animated Screenprint | 2022
An experiment animating screenprinted frames. A drunken college night out with a short video that I took of my friend, Bomsol, completely missing the cue ball and wanted to make into a short animation.
